Can you guys give me some suggestions on colleges

1.My parents can pay in between 18-20k

2.I’m interested in Statistics, Economics and/or Applied Maths

  1. I have no specific preference regarding the environment.
  2. I study in Vietnam, which doesn't report GPA but it can roughly be converted to 3.7-3.8.
  3. My SAT score is 1430. CRW: 690 and Maths:740

I really need some suggestions on safe schools and my range of school for that matter of fact.

Thanks very much in advance.

Are you female? If so, you may have some luck at some of the women’s colleges. Sometimes some of them give money to international students, but not always. $18-20K is not much for college in the US. You’d need serious financial aid for any school to cost that little. You may want to look at Mt. Holyoke or Bryn Mawr, for example. Agnes Scott, Hollins, Simmons–Simmons has a full scholarship and the deadline is like December 1.

Another option might be the Macaulay Honors Program at CUNY. Deadline is December 1 – https://macaulay.cuny.edu/

@Dustyfeathers Thank you so much for your response. However, I am male.

Look at rankings on US News and Report. Think about UCs, Minnesota, UT, schools like that. Personally, I applied to the University of Minnesota as an Econ major as my safety. Good luck!,

There are a few public universities (like Truman State) with OOS sticker prices under $25K, but in general, getting down to a net price of $18K-20K might be easier at selective private universities and LACs (which tend to be relatively generous with need-based aid).

These schools claim to meet 100% of demonstrated need (although each has its own definition of “need”):
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/paying-for-college/articles/2017-09-21/colleges-that-claim-to-meet-full-financial-need

Some of these are women’s colleges (Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mt. Holyoke, Scripps, Smith, Wellesley).
Others may be long reaches (Amherst, Brown, Caltech, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, MIT, Pomona, Princeton, Stanford, Swarthmore, UChicago, UPenn, WashU, Williams, Yale).

Many of the rest could be realistic reaches or target schools. Run the online net price calculators on a few to see if they fit your budget.

For near-safeties, browse the following list for schools that make large automatic merit scholarships available to internationals with your qualifications:

“I study in Vietnam,”

What is your citizenship?

I am Vietnamese, sorry for not being clear.

thank you very much for your advice, much appreciated.

Basically you need a full tuition or 3/4 tuition scholarship.
Look at UT Dallas (AES/scholarship); Miami Ohio and Ohio University might both have offers that put them within budget range…

Congrats on your success in high school!

I suggest you google “colleges that meet full financial need” and “colleges that offer merit aid.”

The wealthiest colleges, which can afford to meet full financial need for any and all students are often also the most competitive (Harvard, Stanford, etc.) These are very difficult for everyone, often with an acceptance rate for “unhooked” students (like athletes) under 5-6%, maybe even as low as 1-3% in regular decision (RD). But you can find schools with much higher acceptance rates that meet full financial need. But they might calculate that a student can pay more than the student feels they can pay. Also, they may be need aware–they consider how much a student can pay in the application decision, which is often the case for international students. Anyway, these might include Clark University, College of Wooster, College of the Holy Cross, Macalester College, Salem College, Thomas Aquinas College. If one of these looks good, check to see if this applies to international students too.

For schools that offer good merit aid, you might look at University of Alabama–Huntsville, University of New Mexico, New Mexico State, University of Arizona, and Arizona State. These are all large state schools. I’m not positive about merit aid at the New Mexico and Arizona schools.

Merit aid might be offered on different terms for international students, but looking for schools that provide good merit aid is a good place to start. I often include this simple chart for Miami University (Miami of Ohio), which shows a range of merit aid by GPA and test scores. ***NOTE application deadline to be considered for merit aid is DECEMBER 1. This is true for some other schools as well.

Good luck!

If the cold winters don’t scare you, consider University of Montana or Montana State University - both can be generous to international students. Also, University of Wyoming could be a possibility.

But hurry, the deadlines are approaching quickly.
