Can you guys help me out and chance me?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior and I was hoping I could get some advice on whether I have a chance at my choice schools and what schools are considered "safety" and "target" for a student like me.
(I am a Asian Indian female and a California resident by the way)

In college, I want to major in History, Political Science, Public Policy, or Environmental Studies, while finishing pre-med requirements to go to med school later on.

Hopefully this gives some idea of what I'm like as a student. My gpa is low because I unfortunately and unintentionally slacked off during sophomore year and the first sem of junior year; i did get a 4.0 freshman year though).

My first choice is definitely UC Berkley. The other UC's I am considering are Davis, LA, San Diego, and possibly Santa Barbara. I am also looking at USC, and NYU, and I think my safety schools are like University of Illinois- Urbana, Penn State, and U of Michigan.

I would really appreciate some feedback on my chances at those colleges and what schools I should definitely be applying to.

Why would you apply to UIUC, Penn State, and Michigan with out of state tuition when you can get an equal or better education in California with less than half the price?

Are you not applying to any private schools? Look at the Claremont Colleges (CMC is great for political science) and Occidental (Obama went there but transferred to Columbia).

I totally agree that a UC education is more realistic, its just that admission rates are declining at most of the UCs, and I just want to be sure that I have a backup in case I don’t get into my top 4(UCB, UCLA, UCD, and USCD) since I have been told that my stats aren’t the greatest…the other UCs aren’t very appealing to me and I don’t think we can afford a private school…do you have any advice on my chances at my top 4?

UCLA, Cal and UCSD are a bit of a reach at this point. I think UC Davis, UCSB are about right. Of course apply to UCR and UCSC as well. Michigan and UIUC are by no means “safety schools” Michigan is a reach and UIUC is a close call. I don’t think any of these schools are worth the 80K or more over UC Santa Cruz or UCR, especially UCR because they actually are building a Med school and have a pretty good pre Med program, which I believe would allow you admission to their med school (right now its UCLAs) if you are one of the top premeds.

UCSB should be among your “top” choices do not underestimate this school, it is top 45 in US and right there with UIUC. If you do want to apply to OOS universities, I would add Wisconsin and Ohio State to your list. Ohio State actually has a guaranteed pre-med admissions program as well and Wisconsin is a GREAT university.
