I am applying ED to Cornell but I intend to apply to basically the #5 rank to #25 rank in computer science
PLEASE AND THANK YOU
As good a chance as any Cornell applicant. You have the URM hook plus high SAT scores/research which may give you an advantage. UW GPA is slightly low for CAS but not that bad. Remember that it is the College of Arts and Sciences and the acceptance rate is low.
One concern that I see is that you don’t have any math classes listed. Have you taken Calculus AB/BC yet? It would help if you listed your junior year classes. Also it would be a good idea to take a couple of SAT subject tests to burnish your application.
The schools are probably on your list but I would suggest Georgia Tech and Illinois as well. Good luck!
Also don’t list 8th grade community service in your application. Colleges don’t care what you did in middle school. They want to know what you did during high school.
That is my fear Hamurtle. I have taken every Technology and Engineering class at my school - I must be the one at my school with the most of these under my belt. However, I am not accelerated math. I am taking precalculus honors. Is this going to be that bad? I am taking mathematical modeling right now. My junior schedule:
AP Computer Science Principles
AP US History
Cambridge research (Honors course)
Chemistry
Science Research
Intro to Engineering & Design
Health/Gym
Geometry Honors
(APs are first offered at junior year by the way)
Your GPA is the only thing that concerns me, but usually Cornell is more holistic than any other top school. I agree that your STRONG test scores, URM status, and your disability will help you significantly. But, you’re best bet is always apply ED! I think your chances are high.
Agree with bubblepop12444. It sounds like Cornell is your dream school and you should definitely use your ED on it.
BTW your numbers are the same or better than the 2 ED kids from my son’s school who got into Cornell this year. One of the kids who got in was a shock to everybody in school (not a rigorous class load, mediocre test scores) and this is from a top 25 high school in California. Your ECs/class rigor/test scores are way better. Good luck!
