Can you have a recommendation from a Principal?

I've made a good change at my school, although it wasn't mainly through one of my EC activites. I did however use the school newspaper to help me accomplish this, but really I've just worked with the administration to make a positive change at my high school. I don't know if this is making sense, but its like I changed school policy for the better/implemented something that benefits students, of course I wouldn't want to say exactly what I did.

Anyway I wrote about that for my common app short answer on an activity because it tied with my school newspaper EC. But I feel like this isn't enough to get admissions officers to understand this sort of big thing I did - so I could elaborate on it in additional info, or, I could ask my assistant principal, whose words were "we really appreciate your idea and enthusiasm to make a positive change at ____".

SO my questions are:
1. Is it neccessary to make this a more prominent part of my application through elaborating in additional info or having a recommendation mention it.
2. Is it even possible/acceptable to have a recommendation written by a principal?

I remember your essay. I don’t think it’s “necessary” to elaborate, but if you feel you haven’t done justice to your accomplishment, then go ahead and add on.

You can definitely ask your principal for a recommendation. I certainly did.

Ok thanks Anomaly, but the problem is I don’t know whether or not I’ve done justice to it. I mean if I mentioned it once, would it be annoying to mention it again or would it just reinforce it? And do you think I’m blowing it way out of proportion?

If you think you’ve done justice, then that’s all that matters. It won’t be annoying to mention it again, and I don’t think you’re blowing it out of proportion, but I don’t think it’s an earth-shattering achievement either.

I’m sorry, your wording is just really vague to me. Obviously its not an earth shattering achievement, nothing you do in high school is, but do you mean its not that good in terms of admissions too?

I don’t have anything valuable to add to this conversation, but I’ve been wondering, do you add your principal as a “teacher”? I would rather use Common App then have him send by mail.

What exactly did you do? It really depends on the extent of your interaction with the principal in particular and influence. Can you give like, a general idea?
