So on all these chances threads, everyone is all "make sure to have safeties, safeties, & safeties!"

But can there ever be too many safeties?

The reason I ask is because looking at my list of colleges I'm applying to, I have around 7 safeties... which in my opinion might maybe be a little excessive.

Any thoughts?

Unless you are looking for the best merit aid package, usually you only need 1 or 2 safeties just in case everything else failed.

If they are truly safeties then you probably don’t need 7. If you can find 2-3 schools that you would be happy attending and that are a good match for your stats, then there is really no need to spend the application money to apply to 7. It’s not really a problem to have extra safeties, but if you select them well, you might as well save the application money for something else.

I’ll probably end up applying to 4 or 5 safeties. If your top choices don’t work out, it’s nice to have a good amount of choices left over.

Since they are safeties, you should actually make the choice before application unless you are comparing financial aids.

there’s nothing wrong with liking colleges where you’re sure to get in :)
