can you hear back early even if you applied regular decision?

I’m sure this question has been asked several times before, but I couldn’t find it anywhere on CC.

If I am applying Regular Decision for a school, but I submit my application in October instead January, will I hear back any earlier from the school, or will I still be waiting until the week of April 1st?

Thank you!

That’s the difference between rolling admissions and regular decision. Rolling admissions, decisions “roll” out constantly. In regular decision you won’t hear until the end.

Some non-rolling schools notify some or all of their applicants significantly earlier than the promised notification date.

If it’s a private university, the answer is most assuredly no barring the “rolling admissions” mentioned above.

My kids heard back early from several schools—both public and private.

Rolling admisisons colleges notify as applicaitons are received. Some others (not any high ranks) will send out acceptances earlier to some, and even those high ranks have been known to send “likely” letters before the official notification date to some highly desirable applicants.

Good to know, thank you everyone
