Wondering if anyone has any success with the financial aid office appealing for extra tuition assistance. My son received the founders scholarship which I understand is the most scholarship money they offer ($12,000). We are very grateful but I have heard at other schools you can try an negotiate a little but more. He received much more money at other schools but Syracuse is his top choice. We are headin up today for own the dome…any suggestions!??
If you don’t qualify for financial aid, unfortunately, that is the max merit they do, unless he was asked to apply to any of the special full-ride scholarships. I think you are up against the fact that he has already received the top merit award they offer, so it would be hard to justify getting more. If he got the $8,000 and you wanted him bumped to $12,000, that’s another story, but there is no basis for them to give him more merit aid based on their program (which is a bit skimpy compared to others, yes.). We are up here now too, looks like the weather finally cooperated, good luck!!
Am interested in the answer to your question if you have any luck. My D has gotten several full ride offers elsewhere but she really likes Syracuse. It is hard to justify the cost at Syracuse when she could go to other great schools for free. Disappointing that their scholarship funds are so limited.
