Can you help me estimate my financial aid package?

I'm going to attend Hofstra University next year and just completed my FAFSA.

My EFC is 0!

The cost of a Hofstra education is $29,080, I was rewarded a $4,000(per year) grant.

Can you estimate my expected financial aid package?

And also, after my FAFSA is processed, where do I go from there?

Do I call the Hofstra financial aid office and give them my report or what?

If your EFC is really $0, then you will receive the full Pell grant (about $5000). You will also get a Stafford loan. And you have your $4000 Hofstra grant. If there are work study funds left, you might be awarded that as well.

Beyond that…no way to guess…Hofstra does not meet full need.

When you filed FAFSA you should have entered Hofstra’s school code. If you didn’t, wait until your SAR is processed and do an update to FAFSA. The school code must be entered so the FA office can download your info and process your award.

Are you a NY resident? If so, did you also file your TAP application? I believe TAP will be around $4900 this year with an EFC of 0 but the state budget could change that.

Did you miss Hofstra’s FA deadline? It seems a bit late to be filing your FAFSA. That could hurt you with an FA package since some aid sources will be gone at this point.

You’d still get entitled aid (like Pell and such), but you might not get the other aid that you need.

Where else did you get accepted to? Hofstra is not likely going to be affordable since it doesn’t meet need and you’ll likely be gapped. You’ll have no way to cover that gap since your FA package will already have the max student loans in it.

IF you get the TAP, the PELL and the maximum Stafford for freshmen, you are still going to be short of the full amount even with the Hofstra grant. You need to talk to the financial aid office at Hofstra. You are very late completing those forms, and some of the aid funds may be depleted.
