Can you help people as an accountant?

I am extremely interested in majoring in accounting because of stability and options, however, being able to help people is a big part in choosing a job for me. Is it common to do charity work/help people out for free with your accounting knowledge? Thanks for the responses.

You can do charity outside of your job you know. And yeah I know some accounting students who work with people on their tax returns and stuff like that. In Beta Alpha Psi we audited books for local churches too.

I have two friends who own their own small accounting firm. They make a nice comfortable living, plus they really seem to have fulfillment in their jobs, helping local small businesses with their tax and accounting issues. My friends are generous with their time, helping friends who have business, tax or accounting issues. They also donate some of their services to local charities. My friends are well liked and respected in the community. You really can have a satisfying life doing good as an accountant.
