Can you offset a high number of B's with a high SAT score?

Wendi- Definitely always try in school, no excuse not to. Upward trend is always valued in colleges. It’s just like someone said earlier, there will always be the people that did good their freshman AND junior years… But almost all schools count the freshman year the least, and the junior year the most. Continue to take the most rigorous courses possible and get as good grades the rest of the way as you can. You can definitely achieve your dreams if you continue to work hard.

Focus in order:

 1. GPA
 2. SAT (Get that 2300+ like you want!)
 3. Grow in favor with your teacher/GC (for the recs)
 4. SAT II’s (You want at least two-three subjects 700+)
 5. Extra-Curriculars (not a huge list, just a couple to show your true character)
 6. Essays, other admissions stuff.

You’ll be fine! :)

If it helps, I go to a school that sends almost a fifth to Ivies, and the guidance counselor always tells us at the beginning of junior year not to be discouraged if we have freshman/sophomore grades lower than we’d like because “colleges loooove the phoenix from ashes story!” They definitely drive the point home that improvement is a plus.

Oh and does your list of schools include Penn? Because it should. :)

NWdivisionCHAMPS - thanks for being so detailed and indepth, I appreciate you taking the time to help! Will most definitely follow the list.

Sugar Magnolia - Ah, I never really thought about Penn before. I’m really thinking about medicine (so JHU, WashU in St. Louis, yeah o.o), but my career goals are open atm. However, I do like the fact that it’s located in a big city. I always thought that Penn was more for those who were interested in business and the social sciences, so I never took much attention to it :/. Then again, I haven’t really looked indepth into that many colleges beyond the statistics, and I’m hoping to learn more as junior year progresses, so Penn might end up pop up on my radar.

Any great things about Penn that you’d like to point out to me to get me thinking about it earlier? :)

Lol, shameless advertising. I really just get excited when I hear that someone is looking at Penn. I chose Penn after having interviewed at both JHU and WashU, and I don’t believe that Penn’s pre-med opportunities are any inferior, but I’ll let you discover the school yourself.

Oh and good luck when choosing/applying! Don’t let CC make you feel like you don’t have a shot at a certain school.
