Can you please rate my college list from which is least to most prestigious?

I’ve been getting accepted to a ton but I am a bit discouraged because I don’t think any are considered prestigious:
Boston University, Gettysburg, Penn State, Suny Bing, Suny Stony Brook, Syracuse, Temple, University of Scranton, UConn, UMass, University of New Haven, Suny at Buffalo
Thanks, this would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Two thoughts.

1--Are you kidding? There are some GREAT schools on this list, plenty prestigious! Boston University (42 in National Universities in US News) might be toward the top of that list, but Gettysburg (49 in National Liberal Arts Colleges in US News), Syracuse (53 in National Universities in US News), UMASS (70 in National Universities in US News) and SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Stony Brook (tied for 80 in National Universities in US News) are extremely well thought of as well, as are many of the other schools on your list. [Not that U.S. News and World Report rankings should be taken all that seriously, but they give you SOME indication of prestige.]

2--Don't pick your school based on prestige. Base it on which school you think is the best fit and on which school(s) are affordable for you. You want to pick a place where you will be HAPPY. Impressing other people when you say the name of your school is nice, but that's nothing compared to the feeling that you have found the college where YOU belong!

Congratulations on your success and good luck with your decision!

I’m curious how you have been accepted to both Gettysburg and Boston University already since both only have ED. Something is not adding up here.

@scholardad I said I got accepted into many, not all. Sorry for the confusion, I haven’t heard back from those two.

@BookLvr Thanks! Encouraging comment makes me feel a bit better.

to paraphrase, you can’t eat prestige- and (to mix metaphors) prestige is in the eye of the beholder. Can you graduate from any of them with no/little debt? That should be a huge variable. What do you want to study? some of those schools have specific strengths.

“Are you kidding”
“Don’t pick your school based on prestige.”

These comments summarize my reaction. “Prestige” is perhaps the worst possible way to choose from among a long list of very good universities.

I would not use the word “prestige” to describe any of these universities. On the other hand, my employer would and does very happily hire graduates from many of the schools on this list.

If you showed up for a job interview and said “sure the school that I went to had a terrible program in my major, but I went there because I thought it was prestigious” then my suspicion is that this comment would pretty much get you shown the exit.

Pick a school that you can afford, that has a good program in your intended major (or possible majors), and that you would like to attend.

And yes, I do have degrees from schools that someone might call prestigious. So does my wife. No one cares.

You are getting accepted to multiple very good universities. You have some time to come up with a sensible way to choose one.

Let me be yet another echo. Prestige…according to who?

Pick the one that the experience offered most matches what you are looking for.

Where have you been accepted so far? And for what major(s)? A university can have a great program in some majors but not be good in others. Does financial aid matter?

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread. When the OP has narrowed down options based upon actual acceptances, s/he can start a thread asking for assistance based upon parameters other than prestige. But there is nothing else to be said on the prestige concept that has not already been addressed.
