Can you pull an Early Decision application?

I applied ED2 to Lehigh, I’m just wondering if I get into Georgia Tech on January 9th, can I pull my Lehigh application. I thought that you can’t drop out after a decision so I’m wondering if anybody has ever done this or know if its possible?

You should be able to, but when does the decision come out for Lehigh? If it’s before the 9th, you will be stuck. ED is supposed to be for the applicant who knows the college is their number one choice. It’s not a gambling tool. You should contact admissions and change your Ed to RD at Lehigh.

Lehigh communicates their decision in mid-February per their website. Not sure why you would apply EDII and sign the ED agreement if it is not your first choice school, though. It is kind of smarmy, but you could do it. I just want to know what is wrong with this year’s pool of ED students – signing a contract means nothing to a lot of them, apparently.

If Lehigh isn’t your first choice, I would email them and ask to be put in the RD pool.

Call them and ask.

Ask them what? Anyone can change their app from ED to RD or withdraw it altogether before the acceptance decision is communicated. It seems the OP didn’t mean it when they applied ED, but they don’t need to ask Lehigh anything.

@codergirl3 Nothing in the Lehigh agreement prevents you from applying to other schools so long as your other applications are not binding.

You have no “obligation” to Lehigh unless you are accepted.

You should leave things as is. If you get accepted to GT before and decide to go there, just withdraw the application. This assumes of course that your application to GT is of the non-binding type. Is this the case?

You can absolutely withdraw that ED2 app any time before decisions are announced. You can also ask to be put into RD instead. Both of these actions are common and won’t raise an eyebrow. Total run-of-the-mill stuff that lots of students find themselves doing.
