Iv already taken the ACT twice, first time I did bad so I took it again. Anyway, most CC forums say you can choose which score to send, so I was planning on taking the test as much as possible. However, my guidance counselor said the ACT isnt meant to be taken repeatedly like the SAT. So, can I take it as much as I want or not?

you can take it as many times as you like...... your wallet.. or your parents wale my take a hit if you wish to take that road

You can take either the ACT or the SAT as many times as you like...but those tests can get expensive...

It's true that your only your highest ACT composite will be reported, as a opposed to the SAT (the college board reports all of your previous test scores).

I actually think that the ACT is a more retake-able test, because as an "achievement" test, it measures your school success, hard-working ability, etc., so theoretically, it should be easier to bring your ACT score up with heavy studying than your SAT score. The SAT is an "aptitude" test, so it measures potential and is therefore harder to study for.

Yep, as many times as you want. An acquaintance of mine took it 7 times...and went to an Ivy.

my guidance counselor said that colleges may ask to see all your scores...idk...so how does sending the scores work? I thought the 4 colleges on your admission ticket immediately get your scores, so do you have to do anything else to make sure they only get the highest?

I don't really understand why your counsellor is saying that - You can improve your ACT score with some practice and you can take it as often as you want. If you don't want the colleges to see how often you took it then don't list them as recipients and don't put your high school code (my D's HS listed everyone she took on her transcript - we didn't choose to send them all to her college but did not think to omit the HS code). My D actually took it several times - including twice after she was accepted to college to try and get a particular ACT based scholarship. Her scores did increase each time so she ended up with a composite score 5 points higher than her first time - if she could have scored her highest in each subscore all on the same day it would have been even higher.

Do not list them on your admission ticket if you do not want them to see it. Then if you get a score you do want them to see you can go to the ACT web site and pay $8 to have it sent to them - It costs extra but it gives you control over which scores to send - ACT just sends the one score from the date you select unlike SAT who will send all your scores for every SAT1 and SAT2 you have taken.

can you cancel colleges getting scores? I already listed the 4 colleges both times I took the test, I didnt know. (probably can for more $$$)

If they are listed on the admissions ticket you could only change that until the thursday after you took the test. I don't believe there is any way to cancel them now.

you can take it as many times as you want.
your counselor has no idea what s/he's talking about.
you can choose which scores to send to schools and they won't see the others.
