Can you just don't take the IB classes offered in school and take IB exams directly and receive the diploma???

Sorry to say that you can not.... You have to take IB classes to take IB exams, because in IB, you have an IA (Internal Assessment) that makes up for a certain percent of your exam grade (e.g. World Lit paper for IB English).

No, you most certainly cannot! IB is MUCH MORE than just 'tough' classes. There are a lot of things that have nothing to do with class that you need to do and there are many things that you can't do with out being in the class! Plus, Exams are only 60% of your actual "exam" grade and only part of your total IB points! Of which you need atleast 24 to get the diploma, and if you're not in the TOK class, I don't see that happening.

in fact you can take IB classes and still not get the diploma. but saying I'm not in IB I don't really care to explain

Oh yeah, that's right! I have a friend who's taking everything but 1 class IB so she doesn't fit the req. to get an IB diploma. When you're not taking all IB classes, you're not really in the IB program. You're just taking IB classes and you are not asked to do all of the things real IB diploma candidates have to do.

I guess IB is more of an experience than AP is.

I wish I could, but I'll go with AP and University.

Schools also have to be evaluated and certified by the IBO before they can give exams - so if you're not at an IB school (which I'm guessing you're not, if you're not taking any IB classes) you wouldn't even have the opportunity to take the exams.

My school is an IB school but I just transfered here. I am a junior already but I have only taken one year of foreign language. IBers take 4 years of foreign language and then take the exam so I am thinking about taking two semesters of foreign language classes at cc and then when I am a senior I can take the 4th year of the class. I'm not sure if it will work anyway....still need to talk to my counselor.
thanks for answering :P

You could take your language at the ab initio level - intended for IBers who start a language in IB, so the exam is designed for people who've had two years of study in a language. It will count as one of your SL exams.

Have a nice chat with your IB coordinator.
