Can you recommend any good engineering colleges

Hi I am a high school senior in California
(near San Francisco)
I have a 3.6 gpa

I have a 1650 sat score, 640 on math 530 on reading.

My act composite was a 25 and I scored 30 on the math, 25 on science and 23 on reading

I wouldn't want to spend much more than $30,000 a year total. I'm interested in WUE schools if I have a chance for getting it. I'm interested in aerospace and mechanical the most but also interested in civil and computer engineering.
I'd just like so recommendations for schools other than California state schools. I like schools near or in big cities, I can deal with any weather and would to go to school that's not too serious

Use [WICHE - Student Exchange Programs](http://wue.wiche.edu/search1.jsp) to search for WUE schools that have your desired major(s).

I have but I looked a Portland and Denver and I barely even would be considered to the wue there

What cities qualify as “big cities”?

Remember that much of the WUE territory is composed of sparsely populated states with smaller cities. For example, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (which you should be an [auto-admit for and which has a low”>ECOA - Undergraduate]low out-of-state list price](Admissions Requirements)) is in Rapid City, which is the second largest city in South Dakota. However, its population is only 70,000.

With your narrow criteria, you’re limiting yourself to schools such as Boise State U. The only engineering colleges in Western major metropolitan areas (other than California) are UWashington, Seattle U, U Portland, Boise State U. You won’t get much financial aid from public OOS engineering colleges. As Ucbalumnus said, there are excellent engineering educations to be had at a relatively bargain price; South Dakota School of Mines, U of Minnesota Twin Cities, Ohio Northern University, Ohio University, all a bit further east than your target.

If you want an urban school with a solid program that might offer your some cash, check out: Case Western, Illinois Tech and U of Akron.

Well not so much in a big city I’d just like it to be near places, whether that be a big city, the beach, a lake, skiing or atleast have a big college community where there will always be new stuff and interesting stuff happening on campus. Thanks for the recommendations, Akron looks great, I have a few California state schools I’d like to go to but I was just wanting some more choices.

Give some thought to Texas Christian U in Dallas-Fort Worth, too.

Co State, though you are below the WUE stats for the school. University of Idaho, but Moscow is pretty small. WSU, Utah, and Oregon State are possibilities with some aid.

All of these get CA kids with your stats.

Thanks, and do you know how much of a chance I would have a getting scholarships at Oregon since they don’t have the wue anymore (I won’t get any from having lower income family)

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities is probably just above your price limit – a small amount of student loan or work earnings may cover it. However, your stats do not make admission that likely.

I would look at University of Utah. Also, University of Houston.

I often toot the horn about South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. I didn’t mention it earlier because the OP seemed to want only large cities.

Like Ucbalumnus said, SDSM&T is a bargain and just happens to provide an outstanding education, particularly in Chemical, Mechanical and Materials engineering. Can’t speak on the Computer Science major, but it’s probably solid. There are many Californians at SDSM&T.

As for Rapid City SD, it isn’t tiny. It’s 70,000 people but it is in the middle of nowhere, LOL. But it’s a pleasant and urbane place nevertheless. Great outdoor activities nearby. Check it out.
