Can you report "semi- finalist" or "finalist" levels?

Hi. I was just had a few thing that I wanted to know if I could add and where I would add them in my common app. My examples will be specifically for me but any other advice related to this topic may help others as well. First, I was accepted to interview for the Bank of America Leadership program. Though I didn’t make it past this round, I was one of 15 chosen from over 600 applications to interview. This is far more competitive that many of my other honors/activities but it seems strange to add something I was rejected from.
Second, I have been accepted to audition for Allstate Band. I’ve only made district honor band once (the lower level) and I have never made Allstate but I have made the audition every year. I think this is because my instrument (the alto sax) is very competitive because my raw scores have been pretty good every year (compared to the accepted scores of other instruments) and very few saxophones (relative) are accepted. Thanks for any advise!

For the Bank of America program, does this mean you were an official finalist? If so, then I would indicate that you were a finalist for this.

All State Band: no, I would not include that you were accepted to audition. This doesn’t really mean anything. Lots of kids go to audition for this. It doesn’t matter the instrument. Only include it if you were selected to be a member of the All State Band. On the other hand, I would indeed include that you were in the District Honor Band.

@TiggyB62 Thanks for the reply. For the Bank of America program, I wasn’t given an official title but I was informed that I was one of 15 chosen form over 600. Also, to clarify about the All State Band auditions, I had to audition for district and earn a certain score to be allowed to audition for All State. (Sorry if that sounded defensive- I really don’t mean to. I just wanted to double check that I shouldn’t add it)

@dyu12345 You weren’t defensive at all. No offense taken. Is there a way you can indicate in the small number of characters they give you on the common app to say you were one of 15 out of 600? I guess in my opinion, this would be like a finalist.

As for the band thing, I guess I would still include District Honors Band as is.

What’s the point of listing the Bank of America program as an EC if you didn’t actually attend? A program is more than just name brand, but what you get out of it. In this case you didn’t get anything out of it (because you didn’t attend?) so I don’t see why you’d list it? On the other hand if this was a competition or a contest of sorts it’s fine to list.

@Skarlo The application process for the Bank of America program had two steps- an application and an interview. Anyone can do the application (over 600 people in my region) but only 15 are chosen for interview (in a way, kinda like finalist). I wasn’t sure but I figured if you could write national merit semi finalist/ finalist, you could write this as well.

Let’s put it this way: if you have stronger accomplishments list them first. If not, this is still an accomplishment just on a lower level
