Hello everyone, I am in Honors Chemistry right now, and I am considering self-studying for the AP Chem Test, so that I do not have to take the class next year. 1. Is it possible to get a 5 with 4-5 months of studying? 2. If I get below a 5, can I retake it and use my new score?

Yes it’s possible. I’m going to self study AP Chem as well starting next month.
If you don’t get a 5 you can retake the following year if you like. You’re highest score is the one that counts.

I am also in Chem Honors right now. I heard that one of my classmates self-studied the AP chem test last year (though I do not know how well she did). Is it possible to self-study the AP Chem test and get a 5? Is AP Chem a far stretch from Chem Honors?

The Chem honors class I took was way too simple compared to AP Chem. Every school is different, so compare both sylabus.

I am interested in this also. If I read Zumdahl Chemistry (18 chapters) in three or so months, would it be possible to take the AP Chem exam and get a five?

Also, can we register for AP exams as late as March?

Why wouldn’t a 4 be high enough?

I thought most top tier colleges don’t like anything below five?

Some colleges only give credit for 5s, but I think for the most part colleges that accept 5s will accept 4s as well.
In terms of admissions, taking the class and the test would be better than just taking the test, unless you were going to take a more challenging class in place of AP Chem.

If I get the chem req out of the way, I can take organic chem next year (through a local uni).

I think.
