So I've been working assiduously on my transfer essays, and I'm starting to realize if I could send a separate, tailored CommonApp Essay to each school, I would really be strengthening my application. For WashU and Vanderbilt, which only require the main CommonApp Essay, I feel like I'm being intentionally vague, just so my essay can work for all the schools I'm applying. And for some schools such as Cornell and Rice, which have separate "Why Cornell? Why Rice?" essays, there's just wayyy too much overlap between my main CommonApp essay and my school-specific essays, and I don't want to run the risk of redundancy for them, ya know? Is it possible to submit one Common App essay to one school and then edit it later for another school?

Yes. On your first school only add the one school to you colleges list. After you submit the application you can duplicate it. Just go to the application through this link: https://app.commonapp.org/Application/ApplicantLogin.aspx?allowcopy=true
