Can you send certain AP scores or you must send all?

So our AP Spanish teacher is pretty lenient with grading especially if you are not a native. So I got an A both semesters which is really good but I was not confident for the AP exam at all. The teacher basically forced everyone to take it though so I had to take it. Pretty sure I got a 1, hopefully a 2 :stuck_out_tongue:

When I report AP Scores to colleges do I have to send all scores in? Would this 1 in Spanish make my app look bad or make my 2 As in the class look worse? I know sending scores is optional but I want to send them in because I got really good scores on my other tests.

The scores are out today for the Northeast, and throughout the country/world by the end of the week. I think there is a way to suppress a specific score and/or delete it permanently. Go to the AP website - I know I saw something there.

No college actually requires AP scores during the admission process and none requires you to submit all AP scores if you submit any. During the admission proces, if you want the college to know your scores for any help they might provide in admisison, you can self-report the scores in your application, an essay, or just send copies of the scores you received to the admisisons office with a letter to include those in your admisison file. In that vein, be aware that tmany colleges will not consider AP scores even if provided during the admission process but most of your high ranks will consider the scores as one factor along with others so it can provide some advantage if you submit good scores.

AP scores are only required if, after you are admitted, you want college credit for the AP course, and then you only need to submit the the test scores you want to submit. There are a small number of colleges, such as NYU, for whoich you can submit AP scores in lieu of other test scores such as the SAT or ACT and then they will be considered for admission, but again you can submit the ones you want to submit.

@drusba oh ok thanks. Do you think it would be to my advantage to just submit all scores that are 3 or higher? I want to apply to high ranked schools like ivies and Berkeley.

A 3 shows proficiency in the subject. it may not necessarily help with very high ranked colleges if you send it, but it won’t hurt either, and providing the test score with a 3, when you also provide other higher scores, avoids any speculation by reviewers that you may have done worse than 3 in a test for which you do not provide the score.

So I took 7 AP tests in total. 5s on three of them and 4s on three of them but a 2 in spanish. Should I still just send in all of them or just send everything except spanish?

Bump, still wondering. Spanish isn’t really a major subject in my opinion so would sending all AP scores except Spanish look bad or would that be alright? Or should I just send in the 2 i got on the test?

@Archlion I don’t think it would hurt you if you sent in the 2. If anything, they may be confused as to why you did not take the exam if you had an A in the class, assuming you did not send the score. Colleges will not use this score against you, though.
