Can you still be accepted to Georgetown without SAT Subject Tests?

So, I am really interested in Georgetown University because they have the most perfect major (Biology of Global Health) for me and my future career (scientific researcher). While I have taken standardized testing (ACT and my grade was a 32), I haven't taken any SAT subject tests because, long story short, I have no mode of transportation in order to get to the testing center. Georgetown does not require SAT Subject Tests, but it is "strongly recommended" and it seems like a lot of weight is put on these tests. I guess my question is is it still possible for me to be accepted to Georgetown or should I just forget about it?

People do all the time, but you should probably hope you’re well above average.

Well, it’s not required so you don’t need to submit SAT Subject scores. However, if you do it might increase your chance of getting accepted.

I actually called Georgetown Admissions last month and asked them: the women I talked to said that not having subject tests “does not at all negatively impact your application” but that the subject tests allow them to get a more complete look at your academic achievements. However, I find that kind of hard to believe considering on their website it suggests that if you don’t have 3 subject tests you should tell them why you didn’t:

“If there are extenuating circumstances which prevent an applicant from submitting three SAT Subject Test scores, the applicant should provide a written explanation to the Committee on Admissions to be included with the application.”

While people have been accepted without them, I’m still taking them in January

Technically no, but as a student here, I’ve realized that Georgetown really looks at the person as a whole in all aspects. If you can in any way, try to talk to them.
Oh, and have you considered the International Health major in the NHS? I feel like it’s also a really great option for you and you’ll get a lot closer advisement/resources just because the NHS has fewer students than the college, so it’s really easy to get a hold of the faculty and they remember a lot more about you as an individual.

@julieeeeee Aww… I guess SAT subject tests do have some weight. However, I haven’t looked into NHS! Maybe I’ll apply there… Also, I haven’t tried contacting Georgetown about the Subject Tests. Do you know if I should contact the admissions office or the regional admissions counselor about this?

@xcrunnerxo14 I was looking at the SAT date for January (Jan. 25), but I thought it would be too late to be sent to Georgetown because it takes about a month to process and the application deadline is January 10. Do you know if they will still accept them?

Yes you can, I got in EA this year with no SAT subject tests.
tyrab024 : I also had a 32 on ACT.

Admissions office will give you a more generic answer and I’m sure they are swamped with calls right now, but I would still call them first just because they probably have the more “correct” answer. FYI, the school “closes” Friday for the break, so I’d do it soon. After that, I think you should also try to get into contact with your regional official.

@julieeeeee Thank you so much! I was researching the International Health major, and oh my goodness, I just fell in love with it!! Also, thanks for the heads about the winter break!

I have a similar question.

I have two Subject Tests, and based on the date of the January test, am unable to take a 3rd one. Neither subject test score is amazing, but they both are above 700. Would the lack of a third subject test be my downfall?

I have a 35 on the ACT, btw.

They do accept the January test date for RD applications even though it is technically after the deadline, it says it on their website

I mean that I am unable to take the subject tests on that date, not that they would not be accepted RD.

Georgetown accepts later testing dates. I’d highly recommend it. I don’t know of anyone who’s gotten in without subject scores.

Thanks for all the comments! I think I will be able to take the SAT subject tests during the January date and I will probably apply to NHS! Good luck to everyone else who is applying!

Is this still true this year?

Georgetown expects all applicants to submit 3 SAT subject tests, except in the case of extenuating circumstances that must be explained.

Uhh I saw it says highly recommended @goldenbear2020

Most definitely yes. Speaking from experience.

Just putting this out there, it says specifically on their website that 3 subjects are highly recommended/required for REGULAR DECISION. In early action, they are committed to reviewing your application as complete with some or no tests, assuming that you are taking them in the fall of your senior year. If they differ you, they want to see them to strengthen your app. At the time of my application, I only had ONE SUBJECT TEST completed, and was accepted EA. I may be an exception (although I in no way consider myself a standout by any means), its not impossible if you apply EA. RD, it’s required

Applicants should interpret this as they wish, but it seems pretty clear to me that not having 3 SAT Subject scores is the exception, and you’d be hoping to be accepted as an exception…not a good plan IMO.
