Can You Still Get Accepted If You Don't Meet School's Course Requirement?

I want to pursue engineering, and for some schools you need to have taken 4 science classes. I have 3 (Bio, Chem, and Physics), but my schedule for Senior year is already made, and I am not taking another science class.

Is it still possible to get accepted to a school like Villanova even without that extra class? Does it hurt my chances?

My problem is if I want to switch my schedule to get another science class, one of my APs will have to be removed (because Art is a requirement for my school), which is why I do not want to switch my schedule.

Contact the schools directly. Generally, I would say that if the school says REQUIRED, then there is little leeway. If it is strongly recommended, then you may have a little wiggle room. However, be aware that you are competing with applicants that have more math and science experience for a STEM major. I would take a hard look at your schedule to get a challenging science class in your schedule.

^ Thanks a lot

Don’t know where you are getting the requirements for Villanova because it would be rare for a college to require four years of science rather than 3. You should contact Villanova and find out what the actual requirements are.

Perhaps you misread or misunderstood the qualifications for Villanova. According to the website, it requires that you have taken Physics and Chemistry (TWO science classes) & four years of MATH. From what you’ve told us, you’ve met the science class qualifications for their engineering program. I’m sure you’ve taken 4 years of math. You’ll be fine.

^^^ Thanks guys! I was getting scared for a moment.

I got the 4 years from the college search at collegeboard.
