Can you still get into the econ program with a B in Econ 1?

<p>I just got a B in Econ 1 =( Can I still declare as an Econ major? I know its a capped major, is it very competitive to get into?</p>

<p>[Prospective</a> Majors](<a href=“http://www.econ.berkeley.edu/econ/ugrad/prospective.shtml]Prospective”>Applying to the Economics Major | Department of Economics) says that you need a 3.0 GPA minimum in prerequisite courses (though if the major is capped, the actual admission standard may be higher). The web pages make no mention of typical GPA thresholds for admission.</p>

<p>You can try boosting your prerequisite GPA with higher grades in Math and Statistics courses, and Economics 100/101 A/B.</p>

<p>I think so. I wouldn’t let a B in Econ 1 discourage you from applying. There are other pre-requisites to boost your gpa. Learn from your mistakes and move on. (And yeah, I too got a B in econ 1 but it certainly didn’t stop me from getting an A in econ100b)</p>

<p>As long as your GPA for your pre-reqs is at least 3.0, you’re in. If a B equates to 3.0, you’re fine. Most major’s just require a 2.0, Econ requires 3. That’s the cap.</p>
