can you take more classes past your unit limit?

im in community college right now and my teacher said if i talked to my counselor they could add like 1 more unit so i can take 1 more class..is this BS? or is it possible?

Are you referring to the UC unit limit? I’m not sure what your counselor is saying. It’s my understanding that if you’re at a CC, you can take as many classes as you want, but the UC will only transfer up to their limit.

well in my college the maximum amount of units u can take a semester is 16…but i want to add more class, but if that happens the units i would have will be 17…so i was wondering if the counselor can add like 1 more unit to my unit capacity

Your asking if you can take over 16units a semester for your CCC?

Yes, generally a counselor will allow be able to increase your unit limit if you can convince them that you can handle the coursework.

o ok thanks for the help guys, also can they even add 3 more units to the capacity? or is like 1 the max they can give?

I think you go in and tell them you want to take x more classes and need x additional units added to your limit. Then you have to convince them that you can manage the workload and if they agree then they will add the units. Basically, you have to make the request and it is up to the counselor to what extent they will meet the request. If your request is not ridiculous (“I want to take 34 units this semester even thought I’ve failed every class I’ve ever taken here”) and you have decent grades, I think you will be fine!
