Hello, I am transferring from CC to what was my 2nd choice CSU this Fall. I am enrolled and should receive financial aid soon. I am very excited to start school. Today, my first choice CSU notified me that they have given me conditional admission for Spring 2019. I would need to apply again, but supposedly I have a spot waiting for me. At first I wanted to dismiss this offer on the spot because I am tired of waiting on this school. My family thinks I should consider it though. Because it was my first choice for many practical reasons that are still valid. For example, the commute will be much much easier (25 mins vs 1 + hour) I am a non traditional student and commute is a big deal (financially + time wise). My question is: can you transfer after one semester from one CSU to another? What issues could you run into? How could my financial aid be affected? How do I know if classes will transfer? Does this look bad for grad school? Any help would be appreciated
you can transfer between CSUs but, generally, you need to be a JR to make the switch. It sounds to me like you still don’t have a YES from your first choice school. It sounds like they have been playing you for some time. There’s no harm in considering their offer but, I wouldn’t put much stock in their maybe. (I am guessing its CSULB).
I would suggest you meet with an advisor at both schools and see what they have to say. My sense is you’d be better off with the bird in your hand.
good luck.
Thank you, and yes it is CSULB.
I’m in the same condition where I’m transferring from CSULA to CSULB because of the commute, I talked to my adviser and they told me that it would only effect my graduation time, I would still go to CSULB this spring cuz it will allow me to be more flexible with time… hope you choose what is right for you.
