I want to transfer to UCSB from a CC with a Biopsychology major and I want to apply this coming fall for next year. I've already been out one year of school due to health reasons and I don't want to stay back at this community college any longer.
So, I have finished some of the prep courses for my major (on assist.org)
and then I scheduled-out all the rest of the courses so that I will get most of them done before I transfer but not ALL of them.
Will I still be accepted into UCSB with that major if I don't complete ALL of the prep courses BEFORE I transfer?? Or can you still get accepted if you've only completed some of the prep courses for your major and then just finish those classes once you get there??

I have heard that you need to have all of your prep courses done before you attend a UC. I would suggest calling ucsb and asking. Dont say your name or anything like that, but ask them what you have posted and see what they say. I am currently at ucsb, im curious, why there?

Sometimes people get in without all the requirements. If you get your IGETC certified by your CC, you come in as a certified transfer. If not, you come in as an uncertified transfer and will have to take more general eds when you get to the UC.

yes, you can. BUT, it depends on the college and the course. People transfer to UCI all the time without completing calc3, but calc 1 and cal2 are required. That said, UCSD considers cal1, 2 and 3 to be part of a series and it’s required there.

Many people transfer into Berkeley and UCLA without completing all of the pre-reqs. This mainly pertains to the majors with a lot of required courses though like engineering or biology. I do know for sure that the pre-reqs for UC Berkeley philosophy are almost never offered/articulated with the community college and a good number still transfer in without completing them.

Yes you can transfer in without completing pre-reqs but make sure you have like 90% of them done. They’ll put more emphasis on your GPA, essay and ECs.

It depends primarily on the major.
I’m not sure how competitive your major is at UCSB, but if it is not competitive, you could still get in as long as you have all your general education(IGETC, or the equivalent of 60 transferable units) completed. You’ll just have to end up finishing the lower division work for your major once you get there. Last year I got into UCLA and UCB without having 1 of my major pre-reqs completed, however I did at least have the General Education(IGETC completed)

I’ve heard that you should complete 90% of pre-reqs, and if you can’t complete them all at least take courses similar to the major your applying to. It shows interest. Also, if the major is less impacted then you have a better shot. For example, I have to take one pre-req when I transfer, no matter where I transfer, but I doubt I’ll be denied admittance for a single course, especially since my major is not impacted. If it was impacted then most people would have completed that course that I didn’t, and my application would look less competitive.

@liek What major did you apply with?

@Topic
It’s possible, but keep in mind that there ARE people who have completed the prerequisites. You’re at a disadvantage, to keep it short.

Yes exactly. If you are going to be missing one or two courses you better make up for it in another area of the application like GPA, or EC’s, or grade trends…etc.
