<p>Yes, there are advanced standing exams for 18.03 (diff eq) and 18.06 (linear algebra). More info [url=<a href=“http://math.mit.edu/academics/undergrad/first/advanced.html]here[/url”>Advanced Standing Examinations (ASE)]here[/url</a>] from the math department. 18.03 is required for a bunch of majors – math, of course, and I think all of the engineering majors. <p>Importantly, taking an ASE or getting AP credit does not “waive” a GIR requirement – you actually get credit for it on your transcript. It’s as if you actually took the course at MIT.</p>
