Can your native language be considered as a foreign language?

This question sounds pretty stupid, but English is my first language. Most colleges require 2-4 years of foreign language but they dont offer that in my school because we only take our native language up, which is Filipino (because honestly, most students aren’t very good at speaking it at our school lol). So should I take up a foreign language in another institution so I have better chances or will colleges consider?

Tagalog is a foreign language, obviously. For colleges that suggest X # of years of a foreign language, it will count.

Do I still have to take the TOEFL? @skieurope and thank you so much!

TOEFL requirements are all over the board. You really need to look at each university’s requirements.
