Canadian B-schools from a US perspective

I'm just curious which of the Canadian business schools are actually known in the US...

Canada? What's that?

I think he means America Jr. ;)

All jokes aside, sorry steevee, I don't anything about Business schools beyond the "Top ones"

P.S. The America Jr. was a Simpsons reference.

University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business is top rate internationally. They predominantly use the case method. As good a school as you'll find, if the case method works for you.

Anyone know if McMaster University DeGroote School of Business is a decent one that's recognized in the US?

I know it's a great school and is respected in Canada, but I didn't know if that transferred over the border.

Hmmm. It's always referred to as "America's Hat" around here. ;)

Only McGill, U of T, UBC and maybe U of Alberta are recognized in the US.

McGill, UofT, Ivey and Queens are recognized in the US.

UAlberta? Are you kidding?

Yep, Alberta. Much better known internationally than Queens or Ivey. I can understand that this comes as a shock to an Ontario Canadian, since the Canadian perception of things is so different from that of the outside world. Anyway, it's not like Alberta is world famous or anything; all Canadian unis are pretty obscure except Toronto, UBC and McGill.

So then the question becomes which ones are more respected amongst the individuals that actually matter (usually those you're looking to be employed by)? Most people outside of the states will agree that Princeton's MBA program trumps (or is more recognizable than) Chicago GSB but those people are probably ones that don't matter too much to you, professionally speaking.
Not sure what the layman's perception is of Canadian schools but in the US business world, McGill, University and Toronto, and Queens are very well known and respected.

generally from my experiences, mcgill is the only known canadian school in the U.S. say you're from UofT, people will think University of Texas. say you're from queen's, they'll be thinking of queens in new york. say british columbia...well, they'll say it's a nice place. of course, these are opinions from most of the people i've dealt with, so take it with a grain of salt.
