my guidance councellor is epically useless…only one even tried to help but he didnt know very much about USA admissions

hah this thread reminds me of when I was applying to US colleges like 2 years ago. My guidance counselor was super nice but when when I brought a copy of my common app for her to look at, she accidentally spilled coffee on it! Thank God I did it online!

I had to teach my IB coordinator about the US admissions process but its understandable because most, if not all, students from our school stay in Canada.

When I told my “Alpha” guidance counselor that I wanted to go to the US for college, he was like, “… Oh.” And when my friend told her guidance counselor that she wanted to go to Harvard, the counselor asked, “IS IT BECAUSE OF THE ARCHITECTURE? CANADIAN SCHOOLS HAVE NICE ARCHITECTURE TOO!” And then she took out a pamphlet thing to show my friend of the brilliant architecture of various Canadian universities.

So yeah. The counselors at my school are useless. Students are on their own if they want to go to the US. sighs

^ lol ***

*double-u tee eff

Oh yea … they don’t even remember my name.
Honestly, when I asked them about the SAT, I got a blank face from my counselor.
I may be the only student in the history of my school to attempt to apply to US schools. LOL :P

you know, I always got this feeling that my hs counselors kinda frowned on students heading to US universities. Something like “losing Canadian-raised talent.”

^ it’s more than just a “feeling” her in my school. the counselors actually actively discourage us - -
it’s so weird…

My guidance counsellor actually told me not to apply to Yale at first. Ironically when I got home that day there was a postcard from Yale telling me about an upcoming information session my admissions officer was going to host.

The next time I talked to my guidance counsellor she was really nice and supportive about me applying. I think it’s cause she finally saw my transcript and figured I wasn’t simply wasting her time.

my guidance is new to the school, and she’s not really that willing to learn about new stuff, so here i am, allll alone.
i don’t know what to do :S it seems like she only knows three schools in the states: harvard, yale, and princeton.
woohooo.
