Hi guys I'm a student in a Canadian High School in grade 11, I'm planning on applying to some of the high end universities in the States, I was wondering how those universities weigh things on their adcoms? Like, marks, extracurriculars, essay, in rough percentages of how they are weighed? I hear that marks aren't especially important, especially from Canadian high schools?

I average about 94% with some grade 11 courses and some grade 12 courses this year so I know that's not that great, but I think my extracurriculars could really help. Plus I have a knack for writing unique essays.

Totally false.

If you are applying to a top 20 inversity in the US, GPA, SAT/ACT, EC’s, essays, recommendations all have to be top notch. Different schools may weigh the components differently though.

94% is bad? Honestly, a lot of people get into top 20 schools with less than that. If you have a 90+ average, you have a fighting chance for any American school. American colleges know that the Canadian system is different so don’t think your 90 is equivalent to a 3.5 GPA or something…it’s actually closer to a 4.0. Just keep in mind that other Canadian kids also have that 90+ threshold. Personally, I would believe admissions would rather see a 94% with a life than a 96% with only academics. And from my experience, usually the former get in.
