Canadian / Intl SAT I discussion

ok..we should start a thread about this SAT since it's different from another thread...

let me start here...

for the passage about the search for extraterrestial life....there is a ques like "A stab into the Dark" most nearly means :

wut did u guys put down??

I had a hard time deciding between hopelessness and a vast task confronting scientists...

i took a vast task confrontings scientists..
also for the passage on paintings or something they were a question about why the author begins to talk about 19th century genres and uses adjectives.
did u pick it was a humorous...........................?

that is wut i put down finally..i constantly change between a vast task and hopelessness........

wut are other choices?? can't recall exactly....

i guess we got an experimental math section too...i remember i wrote four math sections...

Yeah I had a hard time with that question. I ended up omitting it. I spent so long on that specific question and I ran out of time to finish the rest in that section :(
Actually, I didn't finish any of the sections on time. I must've omitted like... 10+ :( I was kinda expecting 750+

I thought cr was hard, maths average (but lots of tricky questions.. I had to change a LOT of my answers because I failed to read the questions thoroughly), writing easy...

For the essay, "ideas are influenced by other people's opinions" (?) I wrote about war propogation and my personal experience.

the freaking thing is that i wrote about US goverment in 9/11......i realli wish there aren't any Bush supporters among SAT essay markers.....=.=

what "tricky" math problems were there? Give examples plz.

I found the 2nd reading section pretty tough.

the SETI passage i think the answer was vast task and the genre question i omitted

for the essay, i used American Tragedy and 1984

i know, 1984 is a bit.. unsuitable..

i wrote that most people except the protagonists (winston julia) follow whatever others do.. though the Party is responsible for it

the first time i took it on january, i didn't manage my time quite well so i got 8(as i expected, on essay)

but this time, i'm kinda confident.. 10, if unlucky 9..

genre... i can't quite recall...

the stab in the dark.. i was thinking about it as well but im quite sure that it's vast tasks since it's not 'hope'less because the passage clearly shows the scientists' efforts...

i think most of the passages were ok... no questions that i lingered for a long time
i remember:
the protected area (two short passages)
art authenticity (about the great masters)
analysis of japanese poems
SETI
and what else...

the vocab.. argh.. some were a bit difficult.. like the one with reca****ite something like that.. i managed to cross out about 3 options on that one so i just guessed(on the other word)

math was easy, answered all the questions with no problems though when i checked back i realized i made some simple mistakes and corrected them
the only one that took time for me was the parallel lines with the shaded area

writing section.. some were confusing
the last one, with the author's brother in vienna... i'm not sure about the first word for the third paragraph(i put something like nonetheless.. again not sure, im confused with other Qs)

cfso1952, I was going to write about the u.s government 9/11 too! But I chickened out because i was afraid that the readers would be bush supporters.
I got 9/12 last year :( hopefully, i'll achieve a 10 or 11.. I even filled up the whole 2 pages!

For that (last?) maths question, the one about cereal and milk and fractions..? I wrote 3/2 (grid in).. Is that wrong? I think that's the one that I definetly got wrong

One tricky question I fell for in the start, was the one where there was a trapezium, and the 2 right angled triangles were shaded. And it asked for the DIFFERENCE of the areas = the rectangle, frm the shaded area. Initially, I just worked out the area of the 2 shaded areas. Luckily i re-read the question at the end and corrected it.
There were so many other initial errors I had to correct but cant really remember them lol.

lol the math did hav the odd tricky question.. as did CR and writing but overall not very tough,, i got 5/8 for the cereal question...

Math was not very difficult...I thought writing was hard. How many 'no errors' did ya'll get? (And what questions...if you remember?)

CR wasn't bad either.

The 'stab in the dark' is the "vast task..." choice. Hopelessness is too harsh of an answer choice.

The cereal is 5/8.

yes!!! im glad that somebod got 5/8 for the cereal..
even i believe that 'stab in the dark' is vast task as hopelesness is way to extreme..

vast task....

i got 5/8 and a vask task. I said that society forces us to agree, patriot act, nazi germany and schools in 1950's germany. I hope it went well...Do you think one of the math sections was experimental?

yep.. i think one of the math questions was experimental.. i also got 1/8 on one amth question. any one remebers that??

yep the cube one...

I'm Canadian and took the May SAT and got 2380. Go Canadians!

did u guys put down "recaltricant" for one of the SC ques?? wut are the wording of the sentence??

and the SC saying the movements of whales?? it should be a contrast combination..

i guess all reading passages are quite ok...easily comprehensible...

I found i got one stupid mistake..the last SC ques....sth like only working at only one feet from the ground....i put down precarious...man...one feet is not precarious...it is supposed to be supine...

hmm even i picked precarious.. its a close one really, cant really say which is correct
