Hey Everybody!
I'm a Grade 11 Student in Rural Ontario, Canada, and I was wondering if you think I've got what it takes to get into Harvard. Unfortunately, due to my location, I cannot take AP classes or the like, as public Ontario schools don't offer them, but all courses I have taken are at the University Prep level. Here's my stats as of now:

96% Average in Grade 10 (with 2 grade 11 courses)

Grade 11 Course Marks:
96% in Accounting
87% in Canadian Law
94% in English
88% in Physics
92% in Biology
98% in Co-op Program at the Hospital

Next semester I am taking Chemistry, French, Sociology, and Math. Last year I ranked #1 in my class, and I believe I may be in the top three so far this year.

Extra-Curriculars:
Member of Exec. Student Council (in charge of charitable events)
Chief Editor of Yearbook for past Two Years
Volunteering in Geriatrics Ward of the Hospital(Hoping for surgical floor next!)
Occaisional work as a stage hand at local theatre
Occaisional work for the United Way
Organizer of school's 30 Hour Famine Campaign
Member of LINK Crew (Help Grade 9s adjust to highschool)
4th place in board-wide french speeches last year
Work as a Pharmacy Technician filling prescriptions.

Hooks:
First-generation college
Family background of substance abuse
Single-parent household

My ultimate goal is to become a physician (maybe cariothoracic surgeon or internist), and after visitng the Harard campus I fell in love wit the school! So you think I have what it takes to be accepted?

I'd say good job so far, but don't be a member of a club: be the president, or at least VP. I'd say don't even try for treasurer, secretary, and the likes, bc they do not entitle much responsibilty (so colleges believe). I think you have a chance, but not a GREAT one. I would suggest you create a biology club or some Science society to boost your resume. Make MUN, AcaDec, Debate, NHS, JSA, etc... You get what I mean. Good luck next year!

thanks for the advice, although honestly i only know what one of those acronyms even stands for. And for yearbook, I have just been "promoted" to president in charge of planning, design, scheduling, photography, finances, etc. think tat'll help me out?

MUN = Model United Nations
AcaDec = Academic Decathalon
NHS = National Honor Society
JSA = Junior Statesman of America (Does it exist in Canada?)

Thank you Asinine. Actually, even I don't know what JSA really is, so it might not even exist in Canada (sorry!). But yeah, being president in any club can only help you. I REALLY would suggesting creating those clubs mentioned above. THey can REALLY help you!

thanks for those acronyms! one thing i noticed hile researching going to school in the states is that they love acronyms! lmao...I'm also running for stud.co president for next year, so I can try to split up the social and academic-humanitarian aspects f the council into sub-councils, because i think right now not enough is being done with the latter.

Anywho, thanks for the advice! keep it coming!
