Canadian spending 200k on American uni.

Is this wise?

Unless you are looking at a very special program that has no equivalent in Canada, it probably isn’t wise. McGill, U of Toronto, and U of BC are world class institutions. The other universities in Canada are perfectly respectable too. It would be pretty hard for a Canadian resident in Canada to spend US$ 200K at any of those places for a four year degree.

What does your family think about spending that kind of money? The people that can best answer your question are the folks signing the check.

bump, im in the same situation

In the same situation! But I’m from Brazil…

If your family can afford it, sure. None of the Canadian U’s offer the kind of undergrad experience you can get at many US schools.

If you have to borrow and it would be painful, that’s another story. But may can easily afford it and if that’s your case, go for it.

really depends on the uni, if it were an ivy i’d say yeah, but they offer financial aid

I’m in the same situation. Seeing as the Canadian dollar has slid, the costs have gone up even more. It’s especially tempting because with the profile I have built up (which would only be average ivy league applicants), I would likely be eligible for many lucrative scholarships at Canadian schools that would make my tuition virtually nothing. A lot to think about!

me too! if its an ivy i hope i get financial aid…

but im already into mcgill, and probably UBC and queens too so well see

For grad it may be acceptable, but DONT do it for undergrad.
