Canadian Student Chances at GTown ('25 EA applicant)

Hi! I’m a senior from Ontario, Canada and I applied to Georgetown EA for the undergrad class of 2025 (SFS). I applied for aid because I read that GTown is need-blind for all applicants, but I don’t need that much aid (indicated that I could get about $55,000 paid each year).

Stats:

  • Highest average for 3 years (97% in grade 9, 98% in grade 10, and 99% in grade 11)
  • No test scores (signed up for 3 SAT and 1 ACT test dates, all cancelled - indicated on separate form)
  • 5s on AP Lit (self-studied), Micro exams and taking 4 more APs this year, but it’s very uncommon for anyone at my school to take more than 2 APs in their entire high school career
  • Small, independent school near Toronto (90 kids in graduating class)
  • All honours classes (apart from APs)

ECs:

  • Lot’s of community service (Maple Lions club, museums, heritage centres, public camps probably about 150 hours)
  • Had a job this fall (Sales Associate for Spirit Halloween)
  • Wrote a lot (Student Communications Officer for 4 years, started school blog, Op-Ed editor for school newspaper, published in local paper multiple times, started IG underreported news account, attended School of the New York Times last summer for foreign reporting)
  • MVP of tennis team 2 years, have been playing tennis since i was 5 and was top 10 in Ontario when I was like 11
  • Peer tutoring coordinator 2 years, tutored students for 4 years
  • ASL club
  • Model UN for 4 years (club president this year, attended Ivy League MUN in Philadelphia, Ontario MUN, helped organized conference at my school last year for 5 visiting private schools)
  • Mock Trial for 3 years (team captain this year, placed 2nd in regionals as a team)

Other stuff:

  • Probably great letters of recommendation, English teacher really likes me and has taught me for 2 years, Director of Communications at the school who I’ve worked with for my writing for 3 years
  • Russian is my first language and I speak French at an intermediate level (have been taking it since grade 4)
  • College counselor said my essays were good (subjective) but writing’s a strong suit so I tried to make them sound interesting and a bit out there (wrote about ideological silencing and journalism and the beatles being banned in the ussr where my parents grew up, my passion for writing, and observation as a skill)

I would be so appreciative if someone could give their two cents and chime in to give me some kind of idea of what I should be expecting come December 15. :)) Thanks in advance!

I think you would have a good chance of getting in, hopefully your essays/interview if you had one gave a good sense of fit for Georgetown in addition to your general resume/academic strength. Financial aid, on the other hand, that’s going to be tough as an international applicant and you need to be prepared to not get any. You generally won’t know how much you get if any until a little later.
