Hi guys,
I am wondering what I should do to transfer from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia to a UC university such as UCLA or USC. Any help is appreciated!!

i gather it would be very difficult. California has strict quotas about transfers. A considerable portion of them come from CCC (California Community Colleges). Unless your states rival those from the ivys, Berkeley is gona be tough and so is LA. UCSD and Davis wont be easy either. You might have a solid chance at UCSB Irvine and Santa Cruz.

oh yeah and USC is private. But then again, USC has alot of requirements/specific courses needed to transfer (or youre going to walk in with no credits). USC also has alot of transfer agreements with CCC's...thats why there are alot of requirements.

Im trying to transfer to the states too. Im looking at transfer friendly schools like Emory, Washu, Tufts.

UCs are extremely difficult, and simon fraser isn't exactly the best in canada, it's not reputable enough to give you a easy time transfering, although, you maybe consider unique to have gone to that school.
just try :)
get 2100+
and 3.7+ and who knows
good luck

keep in mind, aca0260 is american citizen, he gets fin. aid from those schools, if we apply, as canadians many of those schools are extremely pricey for us

thanks for the help guys...it doesn't have to be a UC...I just want to get out of Canada...like what can I do to give me the best shot to transfer in a year or two...do I have to take the SAT?

stanfordlover - im not submitting my SAT scores because I didnt do as well as I would like when I took them and frankly, i dont have the time to take them again.

heres a list of schools that have either told me they would waive the SAT for intl transfers or they flat out state so on their websites.

College of the Holy Cross
University of Illinois
Connecticut College
Boston College
University of Virginia (this one might be detrimental to your chances)
Bard College
Hamilton College
Bates College
Bowdoin College
Georgetown
Tufts
Emory
Cornell
Johns Hopkins
UChicago
Brown (will potentially be detrimental to your chances)

It sounds like you wana go out west and Im not sure of any good schools that dont require the SAT in Cali. However, if your SAT score is 1200+ and you have solid grades at Simon Fraser, you have a solid chance at Occidental in LA. Oxy is an excellent liberal arts college. However, as mentioned, Canadians are not eligible for financial aid at most schools. In fact, many schools dont provide financial aid to transfers period. Do some research and see what you have to work with.

and by 1200+, that's on the old, not the new, the new is like 1800+
what's your current GPA? and wat are you studying?

thanks for the info. guys...if you want to know what kind of school i'm looking for, here it is...a large school with a good academic reputation and a very good social life...SFU is Asian-dominated (65-70%)...Although I am Iranian and Filipino, I would like a school where there is around a 40-50% white population...I'd also like a school where there are things to do and there are a lot of parties...although it would be nice to be in Cali, anywhere in the US is fine

newbyreborn-I'm not in school right now...it's my summer vacation

but you were in university for at least a year right?

no...i'm asking what I should do in order to transfer in a year or two

thanks for all the help guys but i'm afraid i still need more advice

wait, what year are you in? did you just finish high school?

i just finished high school

I have a question concering canadian transfers. If I wanted to transfer to an ivy league university, would that even work, even if I have a great academic record, without taking the SAT's? I hate big tests, that's why I'm asking.

Cornell and Brown will accept your application without the SAT. At Cornell you will be absolutely fine but at Brown it might be detrimental to your chances. However, I just got an email from an adcom at Brown and she said that as long as the four-year university we entered doesnt require SATs, then we are fine.

stanfordlover - there is no way SFU is 60% Asian man. Im sorry but you have to be careful with percentages. And finding a school that is 40% white isnt going to be very difficult because the vast majority are in that range. There are, however, some exceptions such as most of the UC's (especially Irvine which has a whopping 47% Asian percentage...highest in US for universities).

do some research and see what schools you would be interested in. Use collegeboard.com and princetonreview.com to help you out. Email the schools and ask them about their transfer SAT policy and their finanical aid for canadians.

thanks for the help aca0260...by the way what is the percentage of Asians at SFU?...one university that im looking into is Washington University in St.Louis...how is it there?are they very strict on transfers?

Washu is very friendly on transfers...something like 34% acceptance right, which is astronomically high for a school of that calibre.

Im not sure about the stats for SFU because canadian universities dont publish ethnic statistics...mostly because the country is more secure with its diversity. But i know it cant be that asian dominanted.

thanks aca...but I think I am correct on the percentage of Asians at SFU...out every three people i see, two of them are Asian...so I am going to be starting my first semester at SFU in September...what should I do to or start doing to give me the best shot at transferring in ONE year or two?(would rather prefer one...need to be in the States)
