Canadian Universities

Do canadian universities look at ECs for high school students like US universities?

Oh and another question regarding IB: Does taking IB matter like REALLY REALLY much for a person going to US universities? Wouldn't it be better to receive a very high grade not taking IB than getting it lower by taking IB?

thanx a lot

mmm no, I don't think it's so amazing to get a high grade in a non-advanced course rather than taking IB. IB isn't just about the marks, it's about preparing you for university work loads and it is skills that everyone could use (learning how to manage time). IB shows that you are willing and able to take on a strong workload.

No, cdn. uni's do not really look at EC's (some people here say they do but they never looked at mine).

Canadian schools just look at your grades. For American applicants they look at your SAT scores too, but still it's mainly grades. ECs are not considered in 99.9% of Canadian university programs.

So if i'm applying to a canadian university as a canadian student, it wouldn't matter all the volunteering i did and clubs i took part in? Is there even a spot on the application form to list those ECs?

Sometimes there's a place to list them, but I seriously don't think it makes any difference. Especially at huge schools that receive a ton of applications, like Toronto, UBC, McGill.

Yeah, the Canadian university system needs work... ;)

University in Canada love IB people. If your apply to University as Canadian forget about EC. I applied last year and unless your going to a program that requires a supplementary application(Mac Health Sci and a couple of commerce programs) no cares. I applied to science and all they grade about was grades. The online application is just filling in your name and a few other things like date of birth and which schools you want to apply to. Your highschool will send marks and stuff.

ECs usually don't make a difference in Canada unless you are applying for certain scholarships.
