Can anyone give some insight into how the process is for Canadians? Particularly Ontario applicants
e.g. averages for acceptees, effect of ap/ib curriculum, calculation of gpa, quotas?

I know I'm not being very specific but any help is appreciated
Thanks

edit: sorry, I meant to put this thread in the cornell subforum, could an admin move this?

I just applied ED, but I have no clue about the specifics.

AP/IB curriculum should be viewed in the same light as US high schools. There’s like no difference just because it’s Canada. The only difference is that Canadian schools don’t offer that many AP courses, so they probably treat it like a US high school that doesn’t offer that many AP’s.

The application process is the same as everyone else. No TOEFL required (obviously), but you’re considered like any other international applicant.

There’s no way anyone (other than adcoms) will know about entering averages for Cdns and quotas. The only info I know is that you’ll be in the international pool, which tends to be more competitive.

As for calculation of gpa… I don’t think Cornell calculates gpa’s for internationals. Your guidance writes the range for the grades (80-100 = A, 70-80 = B, etc.) and they evaluate based on that. A 90ish is like a 4.0 (if you’re really that desperate to know), but don’t even try to compare your gpa with the Decisions threads because that’s not going to help you. Not only is the Canadian grading system is different (I’ve heard that Canadian grades are considered more deflated than American grades), but you’re competing in a totally separate, more competitive pool.

I figured that Cornell didn’t visit Toronto this year because too many Torontonians applied last year (all the Ivies, except Cornell, showed up) lol So being Canadian might hurt you more than if you’re from some obscure country, since I’d imagine they want diversity lol
