Canadians at cornell!

I herad that alot of canadians apply to cornell, and i am too!
I'm just curious if this is true,,, and if so why is cornell so appealing to canadians?

Hi, I am a Canadian who will be attending Cornell in the fall.
I was actually born in South Korea and lived in Vancouver for eight years and then attended high school for two years in Southern California.
Since I wasn't in Canada during college admissions, I can't really give you a good answer as to why Cornell appeals to Canadians, but as for me, Cornell had name recognition, and I liked the fact that it was large for a private school, offering a wide smorgasbord of subjects. And also, I found that the school's egalitarian principles really appealed to me.

Nice to see a fellow Canadian here. I heard a rumor that each year 200 Canadians get in Cornell (just imagine how many Canadians apply for Cornell each year... O.o...). It's not just Cornell that's appealing to Canadians. Universities including Penn, Yale, Columbia, Harvard, and also UC - Berkeley (especially UC - Berkeley) attract large number of Canadian applicants each year.

Shifu Yoda, where are you from? I wonder if there are any Vancouver people at Cornell. I know that a lot of people go to American Schools from the westside schools and especially the IB program at Churchill Secondary...

I am a I.B. junior in Vancouver. (I.B. should give you a big hint :D. There are only three schools in Greater Vancouver that offer I.B. program).

Churchill
Richmond Secondary
and forgot the last one.

I'm at one of them. LOL (obviously)

Winston Churchill? I attended University Hill Secondary for three years myself before moving to Southern California. Looking back, Vancouver was awesome and it sucked that I had to move.

No. The city that has 99% Chinese. Chinese and Cantonese are official languages at my school.

haha anyways it is nice to see a fellow vancouverite on the board. And yes, Vancouver as a whole is very Chinese.

I'm not Canadian, but many people in my hallway were. Mostly from Vancouver and Toronto. Toronto I especially understand because it's only 5 hrs drive from Ithaca and even New York, Philly, and Boston are 5 or more hours away.

hihi im from vancouver and will b attending cornell in the fall for transfer =)
haha and yes, im from ib churchill ;D

o.. and also, im asian lol it's like all the stereotypes into one...

I am from Vancouver too ~
I got into Cornell Engineering this year.

hey is there a club or something that canadians can join?

how cold is cornell compared to southern ontario? because i keep hearing ppl say cornell is freezing

Cornell's weather is about the same as that of Toronto. It is just approx 2~3 hours away (by car).

ooh thats good because that's where I live haha
does anyone know of any scholarships canadian students can get for studying in the U.S? becuase i know most of the ones that are offered here are for ppl going to colleges in canada.
If anyone knows that would be really helpful

and does anyone know a good american scholarship website that I can take a look at

FastWeb: Scholarships, Financial Aid and Colleges

You probably know this already, but Canadian citizens can apply for financial aid. I didn't know this myself so I thought I would have to take out a large loan to pay full tuition but I applied for aid late in mid-march. Way late, but the financial aid people seemed OK about it and I ended up receiving a good package.

I think Cornell is appealing to Canadians because they have good financial aid for Canadians in particular (or so I heard).

Shifu, I use to live in Vancouver but now I am living in the states- maybe the third IB school you were talking about is Point Grey? How about Eric Hamber?? I remember Hamber having an IB program.. or would you consider that not to be in "Greater Vancouver"... I really don't have sense of "greater" "east" "west" Vancouver anymore.

AFAIK, the third IB school would be Britannia Secondary School, which is in the eastside.
