Is there a way I can cancel the housing contract? I checked Ask Housing and I found out you have to appeal and it seems that it is difficult to have an appeal approved. I don't care about the extra fees I have to pay to terminate the contract. I just want to make sure that my appeal gets approved. I live in a off campus apartment and I seriously have issues with this place. I haven't even slept there since the day I moved in. Please help.

Talk to your Residential Director. Say that your family cannot afford living in the dorms.

Thanks for helping :)
I hope that it works. fingers crossed

may i ask why you havent been able to sleep?

Anyways, I was able to successfully cancel my housing contract. All i did was go under the ask housing and i typed "Termination of Housing Contract" and within the next day it got cancelled (i typed my name, id #, dob, a brief sentence stating why, etc). I got my deposit back within 2 weeks.

Mojojojo- If you terminated your housing contract prior to September 20th, you would have had an automatic cancellation.

I'm pretty sure it isn't too difficult to get out of the contract. There's not much you can do against a person who says "I can't afford housing."

First of all, it's too loud because of the frat houses. Also, the apartment is really old. I wish I knew how the neighborhood and the apartment itself would have been like before I moved in.

But what actually really put me off was that I saw a rat in my apartment room :x Supposedly, there was also one in another room, too which tells me that it's probably not an isolated incident and they might continue to somehow get inside.

Honestly, my parents really don't have enough money anyway. We already took out a ridiculous amound of money in loans and I would much rather wake up at the break of dawn and commute from home and save money than live there.

what apartment building do you live on? so that i know not to request it next year if i decided to move on campus lol

anyways, I am commuting and i love it, i come home within an hour and everything is fine :) Also, commuting you dont have to take out any loans...so its all good :)

Cancel your contract !! Just go off to the housing department and be like "if you dont cancel the contract, im still moving out so you guys better do something about it" They will most likely just charge you for 30 days...because you are suppose to give a 30 days notice. But besides that, just leave.

mojojo, where do you live?

does it suck to have to commute 2 hours a day to get to school (round trip)?

I live in the south bay (beach cities). And its not 2 hours everyday, it depends on traffic. Somedays, its 30 mins, other days its 20 mins. When the traffic is heavy, its about 40 mins (one way). On the way back it kinda sucks, its like 30-40 mins. So its really about 1 hour or 1:15 a day round trip. I have it better than some people...trust me!
