I had an emergency event come up, and I had to rush to finish my EA application by the 12:00 deadline. The essay had a lot of errors and ended abruptly, and my some of my one of my short response sections as rushed and pretty poor. My question is, should I try to cancel my Early Action application and apply regular? Is it even possible to do so?

I am not sure you are able to to cancel your application for a different deadline once you have submitted it, but there is no harm in asking, right? The only advice I can give you is to call admissions and see what they say. I do not even know what other course of action you could take to try to get that done. Depending on the school, they MIGHT let you e-mail them a new version of the essay. But they usually do not do that unless you accidentally submitted the wrong draft, not because you need more time to work on it. But you won’t know unless you ask.

Changing from EA to RD is easy. Changing the application itself . . . I just don’t know. There’s certainly now ay to do it using the common app. So, as suggested above, contact the school and see what they say. Just tell them what you said here - you’re not happy with the app you submitted and would like to have a chance to improve it, even though it means passing up early action.
