Ok, so the contract reads - Please note, the housing contract that you will submit is a legally-binding document. Students who later wish to cancel their housing contract may do so only at the discretion of HRC by June 1 to receive a full refund of their $225.00 prepayment or by July 1 to receive a refund of $125.00. After the final July 1 cancellation deadline, housing contracts may not be cancelled. Students will be released from their contracts after school begins in August only for academic reasons such as graduation, but not to move into off-campus housing.

Has anyone had experience with cancelling their contract? The off-campus housing fair is this week and DS and friends are now thinking of moving off campus, though we’ve all paid the $225. If they just go ahead and recontract with UA Housing and then decide (within a few weeks) to move off-campus is UA likely to let them out of the contract?
I’m less concerned with getting the deposit back and more concerned with being responsible for committing to a year’s worth of campus housing.

D cancelled hers a few days ago with no issue and is getting her deposit back less the $25.00 since she and a friend are moving to the new East Edge complex.

^ good to hear, the decision will be made later this week (hopefully) and I’ll call housing to see what they say, but given the housing shortage I’d hope they wouldn’t have an issue with it.
East edge complex??? care to elucidate? :)

To cancel housing you would email Marc Knight (housing website). East Edge is the new complex opening in August. It is located on the “east edge” of campus directly between the School of Law and Druid City Hospital. The new UA PD will be beside it. It is attracting lots of nursing and law students since the College of Nursing is directly across the street. It is walking distance from Student Health, nursing, law, hospital, etc. Here is the link:[East Edge Student Apartments – Tuscaloosa, AL](<a href=“East Edge Apts | Apartments For Rent In Tuscaloosa, AL”>http://www.eastedgeapartments.com/)

The complex features a fitness center, pool, computer lab, volleyball court, covered parking (available to reserve) and club house. It has 1 br studio, large studio, 2, 3, and 4 person units, all furnished and with private baths (not shared), fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, non smoking, ceiling fans. Leases run August to July which was attractive because nursing students who gain early promotion to upper division take classes summer session. Being from OOS, we didn’t want to have to move from the north tower of RCS to another building for the summer and back for the fall. You can’t stay in RCS during the summer. The model rooms and leasing office are set up at Midtown Village near Old Navy. In addition to the great location, we liked that there are faculty who will be living there and that the complex is totally new.

Just to confirm, spoke to UA Housing just now and the deposit is fully refundable (less the $25) if you let them know you are moving off campus by June 1.
