Hi
I'm an International student at Berkeley, and have therefore paid for the full year's housing fee. I intend to move off campus in Spring 09. Can I cancel my housing contract for the semester? If yes, how hard would the process be?

I’m certain there’ll be students looking for rooms, Sambago. Which hall do you live in? Look at the upside. You could get a single for the price of a double.

Yo, I’m a spring admit that still didn’t get a housing offer and I doubt i’m going to get one, if there’s some way I can fill in for someone else’s dorm, then tell me. I’ll check up with you if I don’t end up with one at the end of this housing process which is on december 4th.

I’m currently in the dorms (unit 3), and I submitted a cancellation request for the Spring term. I have yet to hear back from housing…so is the last day they’ll send out notices December 4th? Where did you hear this?

Sigh…and they initially said that they’d send notices by mid-November. =/ Has anyone gotten a message from housing regarding cancellation or Spring admit housing yet?

Sambago – On what terms did your roommate move out? Cancellation request?

dragongirl113 – I think it’s possible to change rooms, but you kind of have to make a fuss about it. A double on my friend’s floor had conflicts, and one girl ended up moving out after like a month of trying to resolve it.

I’m considering canceling my contract too, but it may be too late if the last day is REALLY Dec. 4. I need to confirm that I have somewhere to live besides my parents’ house. Did you guys get that in an e-mail?

When did you submit your form, icesplendor? You should bug the housing people.

On the housing website, it says they’ll consider transfer about 2 weeks after the semester…can fall admits do that spring semester? Seems like a pain not having it arranged before moving in again.

I sent in my form around mid October. =/ I did e-mail them on November 16th and received this in reply:

“Unfortunately, we are not expressing any “guesses,” “precentages,” or “chances” of getting out of your contract. There are too many factors that go into the cancellation process that you may be in one place on the list and the next day it could be completely different. The earliest we’ll be able to notify you will be late-November, but it is possible we won’t know until some time in December. We will try to keep you as updated as possible.”

Sigh. I wonder if anyone has heard from them yet…

i misunderstood the cancellation policies on the contract…and i tried to cancel it…and they don’t let me…
now i have to pay for two contracts
anyone knows is it possible to cancel it if i can find a replacement by myself??

You can’t cancel if you find your own replacement. I looked into that last year. While I haven’t checked the current policies, I think it’s safe to assume they’re the same…?

I managed to cancel my housing contract last year, btw. =) They contacted me around 4:30pm on the very last day they said they’d send out decisions. Happy day for me and my roommate who were moving out of a triple due to our third roommate’s inconsiderate habits. We’ve been living in the same Northside apartment since, one block away from campus.

hey im about to turn in canceling application on next monday or tuesday or so
doo they find the replacement soon?
i will be living off campus with my cousin who is a transfer student

i think it would be easy to find a replacement for freshman
but how hard is it for a transfer student to find a replacement - -
it would suck if my cous cant get out of the dorm…
