I am planning on attending the CVW for this weekend, but I cant find a packing list. What should I bring with me?

my friend was invited to a cvw. he said to check the usna calendar and see what activities are planned for that weekend. briing one set of clothes to work out in b/c you will participate in one athletic activity. also one set of nice clothes. and rest can be biz casual. did you receive your invite yet ? i was invited to the march weekend too. let's stay in touch. KB

My son's letter for March says to bring:
tasteful, comfortable, casual clothes
pillow
sheets/linens
towel
toiletries
workout gear
swim wear

are you juniors or seniors ?

It's easier to bring a sleeping bag than sheets. Also, it isn't necessary but my BGO told me (and the plebe I stayed with was really appreciative) to bring some type of junk food for them. I had talked to my plebe on facebook before I got there and asked him what his favorite candy was, he was ecstatic.

CVW is only offered to HS seniors who are candidates for the upcoming class.

My son is going on the March weekend. Does anyone know why they will be swimming? Are any of you parents going up for the weekend?

Saturday morning SMT for the Company Plebes may include swimming. Can join in if they want or not.

you prolly wont swim, but there is a small chance of it.

It really depends on your plebe and their schedule. When I went to my CVW in November, I brought all the stuff and didn't need really any of it. My plebe didn't have rugby practice and didn't work out while I was there due to a knee injury. We didn't swim. So, I wore "conservative clothes" all weekend.

My advice: take the work out clothes/swim wear just in case. But realize that it's kind of up to you and your plebe's schedule.

So when or how do you find out who your plebe is? We have the letter, but I dont recall it mentioning the plebe....

one will choose you when you arrive. it's kind of a random process. unless you are a recruited athlete, then everything is prearranged.

That's not exactly true. When I went in November, all of us were already assigned to plebes, which is how my plebe found me on Facebook two days before I went up.

^^^ That is not the norm and there could be another reason why you were pre assigned. Normally it is a random process when you arrive. Many times the Plebes who will drag do not even know they will be dragging until late in the week.

Have you ever heard of a junior gettinig invited to CVW ?

No. It's called Candidate Visit Weekend because those who are invited are official candidates. To be a candidate, one must have submitted a preliminary application (or NASS application) for admission and have high enough test scores/grades to have been given a candidate number. NASS applications are only accepted starting 1 February of junior year of HS, and preliminary applications are accepted later than that. When my daughter contacted USNA prior to her junior year of HS, she received a nice letter telling her that she was too young to apply and a color brochure.

Of course, for every "rule," there could be exceptions.... What about it, all you BGOs?

As above, I've never heard of a junior being asked to CVW. Juniors have the opportunity to apply for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) which I highly encourage. HS students are not identified as Candidates until the admissions cycle officially begins sometime after NASS.
