Is it worth it to go to the candidates day for the college of engineering? How informative/beneficial is it?

It’s good to be able to go and walk around the campus and what not. I didn’t really care for what I can remember of the speeches and stuff though. Just the same old stuff. There were some interesting exhibits and more opportunity to talk with people in your department of interest. I’d say go if you are within a few hours driving distance. If you have to fly in or drive 8 hours or something, your decision is probably a little harder.

Lehigh does a great job of letting their candidates know that they are wanted. If you read the article in the Alumni Bulletin recommended in a [previous post](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1063747166-post4.html) ([The Lucky '13s](http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/lehigh/alumni_2009fall/#/24)), Lehigh takes the admission process seriously. Candidates Day is an opportunity to meet with department heads and learn about their philosophy/pedagogy.

Hopefully, one of the reasons a student applies to Lehigh is for the highly personalized education the school can offer. You’ll get of sense of this by meeting the professors available during your visit. If at all possible, it’s strongly recommended that candidate’s that full advantage of this day. There are also [alumni hosted events](http://www3.lehigh.edu/alumni/events/welcomeevents.asp) throughout the country.

Congratulations to all applicants that have earned/will earn admissions to Lehigh. It’s taken a lot of work on your part to get to this point. You’re now the Lucky '14s…very lucky indeed!

When is Candidate’s Day? Is there one day for each school or are all school invited on the same day?

thanks for the info!!

uhm yeah i think there is one for every school, but idk if they are all on the same date. the engineering one is on april 10th

Is there a link to the candidates day for the engineering school?

^^^never mind, got it…

Trying to decide between Candidates’ Day & Lehigh Life Days. We attended an Engineering School presentation & tour last Spring & wondering if it will be much of the same. Anyone go to a Lehigh Life Day & have comments??

ELY, Candidates’ Day is much the same, with maybe the chance for more time for questions with individual professors when you walk around the exhibits. More interesting than just the pre-admission info sessions. I think the Lehigh Life days are just more general activities. I guess neither of them specifically are that important, but you’ll be glad if you go to campus once or twice more to start to get to know your way around before you move in.

We are also deciding whether to come to the Candidate’s Day this Saturday (for Engineering). I think it will help my son make an informed decision between Lehigh and Carnegie Mellon. Glad the faculty will be there so we can hopefully meet the 2 Deans who sent my son e-mails of interest!

I’ll be there this Saturday for candidates day.
Do we have a chance to meet other future students, or are we merely there to observe?

helenac, everyone else there will be future students. ;)

Frazzle, My son is making the same decision, Lehigh V CMU. We are off to the CMU Sleeping bag weekend after leaving Lehigh Candidates Day!

Well im excited to visit. who knows, maybe ill see some of you CC-ers next year! :D

Mumof2boyz- hopefully we’ll meet on Saturday! Unfortunately, we got closed out of the sleeping bag registration! but we’re going to visit CMU the following weekend (Sunday to Monday)! Did your son get into the engineering school at both Lehigh & CMU?

Frazzled - Son accepted into Lehigh Engineering/Eckardt Scholar. At CMU he was accepted into MCS Biology and waitlisted at CIT. He wants biomed engineering which is not yet a standalone major at CMU, but apparently will be soon. He can either go into MCS and minor in Biomed Eng or try to transfer internally to CIT once there and double major, or get off the waitlist.

If I’m going to be an IBE major, and I’ve already seen the Engineering side of Lehigh a few times, should I drive four hours down and four hours back for the Business candidate’s day on Friday?

If you’re thinking about Lehigh Life Days v. Candidates Day, you might want to think about whether or not you’d like to sit on a class–you won’t be able to do that on weekend Candidate’s Day, but should be able to on a Lehigh Life Day.

Mumof2boyz- have you heard anything about how easy it is to transfer internally from MCS to CIT once at CM? That’s my son’s biggest concern-going in as a Physics major and not gettting into the CIT or off its waitlist! Or do a sure thing at Lehigh…:(

Frazzled - We have the exact same situation - we have heard from current students and graduates that it is relatively easy, however admissions has stressed with us that it is not guaranteed. This is the main thing on our mind going into this weekend. Hopefully discussing this question with the department administrators on Sunday and Monday will ease our concern.
