This fall I have a single, and I'd really like to create a makeshift canopy for my bed in my dorm room.

We have the usual stackable/loftable furniture that can be found at almost every college. I'm sure there has to be some way to utilize the four bedposts to do this, possibly with a rod or two going across to drape the cloth on? Obviously hanging anything from the ceiling is out, and I don't really like the look of those "ring canopies" anyways.

If anybody has any ideas on how to accomplish this cheaply & easily, I'd love to hear it! :)

Nope, thought it would be a fun & cheap way, now that I don't have a roommate, to add some color and flair to my room without doing something drastic like painting or covering my walls in posters. I certainly don't "live like a princess" at home OR at school.

As I stated before, the bed is the type that can be lofted up to the ceiling (my bed was lofted all freshman year), so with the mattress at about waist level like I plan it the bed posts will be plenty high, thanks.

Try not to jump so hard to conclusions next time, you might hurt yourself.

I don't have any ideas in particular, aphotic; but once you're done with the canopy-bed, give me a call and I'll be happy to test out the bed with you (or a hot friend).

I mean, it's not even close to the craziest thing anyone has said on here. Anybody remember the girl who wanted to market a little mini-room box thing that went around your bed? But I have to admit, if I went to a girls room and there was a canopy I'd have to ask her if she realized she was in college and not middle school. Or more likely just put a little tick in the "Probably Crazy" box for her.

The fact that you’re so closed minded really trips me out. Let her be creative and make her canopy. I’m pretty sure you once a had a unique idea. It wouldn’t be so nice to you if someone was to knock your inspiration ,instead of being a twat actually put forth something positive like not saying anything at all.

Just use another set of bedposts like you’re making a bunk bed (they have stackable ones here, idk if that’s a common thing or not), and mount the canopy on the corners of that instead of putting the other mattress. There’s usually a pad for the mattress to sit on, but you could just swap in a canopy for the mattress and it should work.

You can use pvc pipes. Home depot may cut them 4 you. Can make it however you want with connectors. Secure pvc to bed posts. Fabric from store and you are in business!

The word canopy has brought up images that are a lot less practical then what I would have in mind. Your idea of a PVC pipe canopy is the best idea yet. This is not an idea created to make princess style living. This is an idea that will make it a lot easier to sleep. If you are like me you do not want to have people turning on lights while you are sleeping and you don’t want to wake up others when you are coming in late. I would use very dark thick cloth with flaps so that I could tie it all back when I wanted it open. I could stay up all night with my lap top on and head phones without my room mate being kept awake by the light that it gives off.

You’re responding to a two year old post on a thread from 2008! (How do people even find these old threads in the first place?) And perhaps your roommate would not be thrilled to have one of the beds in the room surrounded by a shroud…
