Can't afford a Laptop (help?)

Uh unfortunately I don't think I can afford a laptop because my family doesnt make very much money (efc 0)... Family income ~11k

I already have to take 1 loan out (2,600) to pay for tuition per year. - I know that isn't much.

Anywho, is there any way I can possibly get a Laptop from UT for free? Like, can I write a letter explaining my current situation in hopes that they will help me get one?

Thanks,
Chris

you could just use the computer labs...

You can also work this summer to earn enough to buy a used computer or an entry-level desktop. Dell has them for around $300 which should equate to about a week and a half at minimum wage. If you work an extra week and a half you could buy an entry-level laptop (or just buy a used one for much less).

Most schools don't require a laptop - you can use the computers in the labs, libraries, etc. Some schools also let you check-out laptops from the library but this will vary from school to school and I don't know how long they let you keep them.

UT FAC is open from Sunday to Thursday 24hrs. Then it's opened at limited times Fri and Sat, till about 10 pm.

You can't get a laptop for free as far as I know, but you might be able to take out another loan to cover it.

great,

thanks for the help

also, at the FAC and various other libraries you can rent out laptops for free for up to two hours at a time. This is a great opportunity that many don't know about.

good luck. (also, is your screen name from a band?)

If you are receiving financial assistance and a computer is required or recommended for your major, you may qualify for additional funds to pay for the computer. For instance, education majors are required to have a laptop and can qualify for financial assistance to buy it: http://www.utexas.edu/education/laptopFAQ.html.

In addition, I think you should contact the Office of Student Financial Services to see if they can help you.
