I pretty much only applied to Stony and some CUNYs because I thought I had a good chance of getting into Stony. But I got wait-listed. I'm devastated. I never expected it. Last year they only took 2.3% of wait-listed applicants. I have no idea what to do I was basing my whole life around Stony. Does anybody have any advice. Right now it seems like im going to go to CUNY Brooklyn College

Well, at least you applied to other colleges. Stony Brook was only college that I actually applied to.

Did you get in?

My son also got waitlisted. It is his first choice. We are trying to decide between Binghamton and Oneonta as a backup.

I got waitlisted, which I did not expected to happen. My sister got in to Stony Brook two years ago and she had slightly higher SAT score than mine but I still have better GPA and extracurricular.

It’s always a gamble. SBU had a massive application spike this year since people are realizing how good of a school it is for Science/Premed/Engineering/Math.

So is going to Cuny Brooklyn college for 1-2 years and getting all my prerequisites out of the way and then transferring to Stony brook sound like a good plan?

It does, use their online course equivalency guide to set up your schedule.

As long as you have 24 credits and a 3.0 you can apply to transfer to Stony Brook. Be careful with the pre requisites because our method is changing next year, so you may want to contact our transfer office if that is your full intention.

My son just got accepted off of the waitlist today. He obviously missed Admitted Students Day and I was wondering if there was an opportunity for him to tour the campus before orientation. He is ecstatic and intends to matriculate but would like some information so he can decide his order of preference for the UG.

Yes, definitely. Link to tours/info sessions: http://www.stonybrook.edu/ugadmissions/visiting/infosessions.shtml
