Can't decide Between VA Tech or Penn state

Which do you think is an overall better school? I don't really know what I want to major in, something in science or engineering.

I have a son at PSU (he was also accepted at VT) and daughter heading to VT next year (not interested in PSU). I think for them the biggest difference was PSU is much larger. My son wanted larger. Daughter needs something a little smaller. Academically, PSU is better ranked, but I honestly don't think that will matter much between these two schools. They are both strong in those areas. It is more what type of atmosphere will you be happier in....

Both campuses are really nice - but State College is much more a college town than Blacksburg. If you want a place with a "college town" - PSU is the place to be. I am not sure what the kids at VT do, but I don't think "going into town" is as popular as it is at PSU. I suspect most activity remains on campus. But at PSU, it is hard to tell where the campus ends and the town begins.

Hey sparkles. I got into both Penn State (upark im assuming for you also) and Vtech. I personally like Vtech more, for several reasons- although I did go back and forth. I'm from a large high school in NJ, and a LOT of kids go to Penn State. From my school, it is harder to get into Vtech, although overall, if you get into PSU you should get into VT anyway, and vice versa. I like the campus at Vtech. It's true PSU is more of a college town, but I've visted both 2 times and fell in love with Vtech. If you haven't been, I have pictures that I took... so they arent posed or professional, I'd be happy to send you (of tech). I plan to go to tech in the fall, because I can easliy double in economics and marketing where as PSU would be harder to combine those two courses. I'd consider your major, the geographics (VT is MUCH warmer, PSU is very 'gray'- and I know I don't work as well in winter (haha- it's true though))... and also the location. VTech is 8 hours for me, PSU is 4, but I don't mind. I think if you can get there in a day, its all the same. Goodluck... let me know how you decide. Where else did you apply (I did Fairfield University, JMU, and UMD (college park))
