Can't Decide: Union or Trinity

I got accepted into a couple of schools, and narrowed it down to 2 of them. It is between Union College (in Schenectady, NY) and Trinity College (in Hartford, Conn.). The only problem I have is that I can't decide which one I should go to. I know that I want to study economics in college, and that I want to go to a school that will prepare me for life and a career. I visited both and liked Trinity a little more, but not much.

Can anyone please give me some advice or help me decide? I am starting to get stressed out.

It is said that Schenectady is not a cool place. But I don’t know how much does the surrounding area of campus matter.

Visited both schools with my D this last year (although for full disclosure, she chose to attend another LAC). The schools are very close and you would get a great education at either school I’m sure, so the most important thing to do is pick the school where you feel most comfortable. A few comments would be: (1) Neither location is great – overall Hartford is more central and less in the snow belt but there was some incident on campus this year – in any urban location you must be careful and smart; (2) Union’s trimesters versus Trinity’s semesters – most people prefer semesters, but to some trimesters work better; (3) Trinity seemed a bit preppier when we visited; (4) if you don’t like snow/cold, then consider Union’s location carefully; (5) Union seemed very focused on the sciences to us. The truth is that you can’t make a bad choice. If you need to visit the schools again, try to make that happen. But if one feels right to you, if one school makes you stand a bit taller, feel a little more comfortable, and seems like you will find good friends there then go there. Some of it comes down to gut feelings in the end. Good luck.

Similar in that they are both LACs with engineering in a small city. If you like Trinity a little better, then go there and don’t look back!
