here's the story...pretty much i'm an engineering/premed major...i got into cal poly pomona, uci, ucsd, ucla, and uc berkeley

pretty much it's down to ucla and uci

here's the deal though...i live closer to uci, meaning i wouldn't have to live on/near campus and would have to drive to school/back...meaning i live further from ucla and that i'd have to live on/near campus

went to uci orientation on may 1st and seen ucla today. i don't know i just can't make a decision. obviously, they're both good schools and all, but i don't know whether to waste/ spend my/parents' money for 3 years or live at home and commute, which saves money

don't know if ucla is right choice for the above reason(s)...i have many friends/family who've gone to ucla...many say go there..others say doesn't matter..one friend says don't go because it's too crowded, you fell like a #, and it's not as what you think it is (meaning overrated??)

so, basically money may/may not be an issue depending on how things end up (economy gets better/if i work/research/etc)...i don't know if the whole LA scene is for me or if the irvine mostly commuter scene is...i don't know if i should just say to myself "go to LA, you can never go wrong with a better school" or what?

because of this, i've been strongly considering submitting 2 sir's, so i don't know

need help guys...please make comments/suggestions/stories/related info lengthy and fully of explanations...this is a big decision for me and probably many others...thanks

UCLA for engineering. Pre-med is up to you. If you are into the prestige, then yea go to UCLA. If you want to save the $, then go to UCI. I would choose UCI because I rather not be in debt before med school but it is really up to you.

If you can live at home for UCI (and don’t have horribly overbearing parents) I would go there. You are planning to go to grad school and going to UCI will safe you a boatload if you live at home. That will help pay for grad school. On top of that, I don’t think going to UCI will affect your chances of getting into a grad school. Just make sure you have a good GPA and do well on the MCATS.

uci- save money, get better grades, commute from home, meet less people, less social scene, may have easier chance getting research position

ucla- spend more money, chance of getting worse grades, living in LA (campus, or apt), meet more people, more prestige, more social scene, may have to work a bit harder for research position, become more independent

pretty much…that just about does it…even though i still haven’t made my mind, this is what it’s down too

anybody else have something to say bring it up
thx

go to UCLA
the LA scene is great.
better networking opportunities.
the education is great.
you get to live on your own, become more independent and grow as a person.
if your parents are willing to put up the money with ease its probably because they know ucla is a great opportunity for you.
also ucla has more prestige but honestly this shouldn’t factor in your decision, you should go where the best engineering program is offered.
and do you realyyyyyyyyy want to commute to UCI
